Computing programme

Our computing curriculum at Flimby gives children the opportunity to learn how to program, create their own media, handle data and stay safe online, supporting them to develop key technological and computing skills that they’ll need growing up in an ever-advancing digital world.
Our computing lessons are taught using iPads, alongside physical computing devices such as Bee-Bots, Micro:bit and unplugged activities. Each child has their own iPad, offering a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters digital literacy from an early age. With individual devices, children can explore coding, multimedia creation, internet safety, and problem-solving through interactive apps and tailored learning platforms. Lessons become more personalised allowing children to progress at their own pace and the wide range of accessibility tools and apps help to support every child to access their learning.
Although children receive a discrete computing lesson each week, computing skills are used across the curriculum such as for research in science, creating digital timelines in history and supporting children with their vocabulary in English, making computing a central and versatile part of the school day. This approach not only builds technical skills but also encourages creativity, collaboration and responsible digital citizenship.
